August Birth Month Fun Facts and Gift Guide

In this article you'll find interesting facts about August and gift ideas for August birthdays.

Those born in the month of August are ruled by the Sun and the Moon and therefore are interesting and different. Their unique traits set them aside from the lot. The intelligence, magnetic character and stunning personality of August-born Leos and Virgos never fail to catch the attention of others.

August Birth Stone: Peridot

This green gem is often mistaken for an emerald, but it has its own hue and is just as pretty. This gemstone is formed deep inside the earth and is brought to the surface by volcanoes. According to legend, when a peridot is combined with gold it takes on magical powers, and can even keep nightmares at bay.

August Birth Flower: Gladiolus / Poppy

The gladiolus brings remembrance, calm, integrity and infatuation. Poppy is also a popular August flower: red means pleasure, white means consolation, and yellow brings wishes of wealth and success.

Zodiac Signs

leo and virgo

Leo

Bold, intelligent, warm, and courageous, fire sign Leo is a natural leader of the Zodiac, ready to blaze a trail, vanquish injustice, and make a name for themselves along the way. Blessed with high self-esteem, Lions know that they possess enviable traits—and they're proud of them. They don't believe in false modesty and will be the first to praise themselves for a job well done. But Leo isn't self-aggrandizing or unwilling to roll up those sleeves and do the work: this sign knows that in order to be respected and admired, he or she needs to put in the effort worthy of a leader.

Leo fun fact:

"Leo is connected to the first of twelve labours of the Greek hero Hercules, in which he had to kill the notorious Nemean Lion. The Lion lived in a cave in Nemea and terrorised the people who lived there. There was no way to defeat him because of the impenetrable skin that could not be punctured by iron, bronze or stone. When Heracles found it, he tried to shoot it with arrows and they simply bounced of the lion’s skin. When the lion entered his cave to hide, Heracles started a search for it. He needed two months to find it in that cave and finally strangled it, using its own claws to get its skin. This skin was made into a cloak, worn as a trophy and a reminder of Heracles’ strength, as well as a cloak of protection that made him look even more fearsome."

Virgo

Smart, sophisticated, and kind, Virgo gets the job done without complaining. Virgos are amazing friends, always there to lend a hand and also lend advice. Practical Virgos are incredibly adept at big picture thinking, and planning out their life, their vacations, and what they're going to do today isn't a drag it makes them feel in control and secure.
